GFS LS Computer Camp 2014

Welcome to the Computer Camp for Germantown Friends School's Lower School!

This year we had 23 campers, and our theme was
EXPLOSIONS!

Here's our Camp Logo:
Here is our Official Camp Photo!

We studied everything from exploding soda bottles and volcanoes, to meteors, supernovae, and why Alfred Nobel is known more for the Peace Prize than his invention of dynamite!

Our campers wrote reports based on research and can tell you what makes a soda can explode in a hot car, why frozen water bottles explode, why bomb disposal is so difficult, how model rocket engines work, cool science experiments that explode, how the different colors in fireworks are created, the famous Mentos and Diet Coke geyser, real geysers and why they shoot up, and how blasting is used for mining and construction.

Each student in first through sixth grade had his/her own computer for the entire week.

Each morning began with open time followed by some kind of educational computing such as typing for 4th through 6th graders, and word or math puzzles for others.

We used lots of different programs on Macintosh computers
Firefox browser
Filemaker Pro Database

GarageBand Music creation
Image Tricks photo editing
iPhoto slideshow

Paintbrush drawing
Here are some photos from the week.
